オーストラリアにある世界最大の珊瑚礁。この広大な珊瑚礁の南端にあるウィットサンデー諸島の中にあるヘイマン島でのダイビング中に、アダムスは巨大なイトマキエイに会った。（The Salmon of Doubt, p. 47）
ヘイマン島に行くには、まずはケアンズまたはブリストル経由の飛行機でハミルトン島に飛ぶ。ヘイマン島はそこから船で、約１時間の距離。
ハミルトン島が、島全体が国際的なリゾートとして開発されているのに対し、ヘイマン島は英国王室から「ロイヤル・ヘイマン」の称号を与えられているほどの世界屈指の高級リゾートとして知られている。と言っても、日本人観光客、とりわけハネムーン客が多いらしい。The hotel is so spacious and rambling that you don't often get to see many of the other guests, but it was interesting to begin to realise how many of them were Japanese.
