第78回アカデミー賞ノミネート作品を決定するために、映画芸術科学アカデミー賞は、オリジナル歌曲賞のノミネートの候補42曲を発表した。そして、2006年１月31日にはこの「ノミネートのノミネート」の中から本当のノミネート作、３本が発表される。
映画『銀河ヒッチハイク・ガイド』の主題歌、"So Long and Thanks for All the Fish"
は、ノミネートのノミネートには選ばれたが、残念ながらノミネートは逃した。選ばれたのは、"Hustle &
Flow (It Ain't Over)" 、"In the Deep" 、"Travelin'
Thru" である。そして、アカデミー賞の栄冠に輝いたのは"Hustle & Flow (It
Ain't Over)" だった。
